An award-finalist bespoke kitchen in Winchmore Hill, where natural walnut, architectural porcelain and thoughtful craftsmanship create exceptional design value.

Luxury kitchen design under £40k can achieve remarkable results when creativity, intelligent planning and exceptional craftsmanship come together. Our Selborne Road project in Winchmore Hill demonstrates how carefully considered materials and bespoke manufacturing can create a sophisticated family kitchen within a defined budget.

Point 5 Kitchens is delighted that this project has been named a finalist in the Kitchen Designer of the Year (Under £40k) category at the Designerati Awards 2026. The nomination recognises a beautifully balanced design that combines premium materials, technical innovation and everyday functionality.

Created for a family of four, the kitchen brings together rich walnut cabinetry, a striking porcelain-clad island and carefully considered architectural detailing. The result is a warm, contemporary interior that feels luxurious without unnecessary excess.

Luxury Kitchen Design Under £40k: The Client’s Vision

The project began with an ambitious brief to create a timeless kitchen that would become the heart of a newly extended family home. The clients loved cooking, entertaining and spending time together, so the design needed to support both everyday routines and social occasions.

Two elements were particularly important from the outset: the natural warmth of walnut and a dramatic monolithic stone island. Inspired by previous Point 5 Kitchens projects, the clients wanted these features to define their new interior.

The challenge was to deliver this vision within a kitchen furniture budget of under £40,000, excluding appliances supplied separately by the clients. Our design team approached every decision with care, balancing premium materials with practical solutions to achieve the greatest possible impact.

A Warm Modern Bespoke Kitchen in Winchmore Hill

Located on Selborne Road in Winchmore Hill, the kitchen occupies a generous open-plan extension designed around contemporary family living. A six-metre furniture run creates a strong architectural backdrop, while a substantial 3.1-metre island establishes the natural centre of the room.

The design embraces warm modernism through a carefully curated palette of walnut, porcelain and metallic finishes. Natural timber brings richness and character, while pale stone surfaces introduce a calm, elegant contrast.

Rather than relying on decorative excess, the kitchen creates visual interest through proportion, texture and refined detailing. Every material contributes to a cohesive interior that feels sophisticated, welcoming and timeless.

A Statement Atlas Plan Porcelain Kitchen Island

At the heart of this bespoke kitchen sits an impressive island finished in Atlas Plan Crystal White Silk porcelain. Its elegant stone appearance creates a monolithic architectural feature that immediately draws attention.

The porcelain continues across the worktops and splashback, establishing a consistent material language throughout the space. Its soft natural tones complement the walnut cabinetry while maintaining a bright and contemporary atmosphere.

The clients particularly wanted the island to feel sculptural, with porcelain extending beyond the worktop onto the cabinetry itself. Achieving this effect required specialist technical development and close collaboration with suppliers.

Reinforced hinge specifications provide the additional strength needed to support the porcelain-clad doors safely and reliably. This carefully engineered solution demonstrates how bespoke manufacturing can transform an ambitious design concept into a practical everyday feature.

Natural Walnut Cabinetry and Refined Metallic Finishes

Natural walnut veneer forms the foundation of the kitchen’s material palette. Its distinctive grain introduces warmth and depth, creating an inviting atmosphere within the contemporary extension.

To complement the premium timber and porcelain surfaces, our designers selected Homapal metallic melamine for the wall cabinetry. This considered choice introduces a sophisticated contrast while helping maintain control over the overall project budget.

Glazed aluminium-framed wall cabinets add transparency and visual depth, preventing the upper cabinetry from feeling too heavy. Integrated LED lighting highlights the surrounding materials and enhances the architectural character of the furniture.

Routed handles with Homapal inserts provide another subtle design connection between the walnut cabinetry and metallic finishes. Together, these details create a balanced composition that feels individually crafted rather than assembled from standard components.

Intelligent Kitchen Planning for Family Living

Beautiful kitchen design should always support the way people live. For this family, efficient cooking, generous preparation space and effortless entertaining were essential parts of the brief.

Our designers positioned the refrigerator and ovens close to the entrance, creating convenient access while keeping circulation away from the main preparation areas. This arrangement supports an efficient working triangle and allows the central island to remain the focus of everyday activity.

A recirculating induction hob sits within the island, allowing the clients to cook while remaining connected with family and guests. Seating for four creates a welcoming space for informal meals, conversation and relaxed entertaining.

Premium Siemens and Gaggenau appliances integrate into the carefully planned layout, supporting everyday functionality. The clients supplied these appliances separately from the under-£40,000 kitchen furniture budget.

Bespoke Kitchen Storage Without Visual Clutter

One of the project’s main challenges involved incorporating substantial storage while maintaining a calm, uncluttered appearance. Our bespoke manufacturing capabilities allowed us to create cabinetry tailored precisely to the available space.

Full-height furniture provides generous storage while establishing a continuous architectural composition. Every cabinet follows individual dimensions, allowing the design to maximise functionality without introducing unnecessary visual complexity.

Inside the pantry, a mirrored surface enhances the perception of depth and creates a more spacious feel. Dedicated spice storage keeps frequently used ingredients organised, while carefully selected 170-degree hinges improve access and movement around the cabinetry.

These thoughtful solutions demonstrate how bespoke kitchen design can enhance everyday living through details that remain discreet within the finished interior.

Overcoming Architectural Challenges Through Bespoke Craftsmanship

The extension’s sloping roof presented a significant design challenge by restricting the available wall space. Rather than allowing this limitation to dictate the layout, our team developed a symmetrical furniture composition that creates visual balance.

This approach helps the room feel more spacious while establishing a strong relationship between the full-height cabinetry and central island. The result is an architectural arrangement that feels intentional and harmonious.

The porcelain-clad island doors introduced another technical challenge, requiring additional engineering to accommodate the material’s weight. Through specialist collaboration and carefully developed construction details, the team achieved the desired appearance without compromising functionality.

Both solutions demonstrate the value of combining creative design with technical expertise and precision manufacturing.

Luxury Kitchen Design Under £40k Through Intelligent Material Selection

One of the project’s greatest achievements is the balance between premium materials, bespoke detailing and carefully controlled expenditure. Every decision focused on creating exceptional visual impact while respecting the clients’ defined investment.

Natural walnut veneer delivers warmth and authenticity, while Atlas Plan Crystal White Silk porcelain creates the architectural centrepiece. Homapal metallic finishes introduce another sophisticated material layer at a more accessible cost than some alternative specialist surfaces.

Rather than compromising the features that mattered most to the clients, our designers carefully prioritised materials and details. Bespoke manufacturing also allowed us to optimise cabinetry dimensions, storage and spatial efficiency.

The completed project demonstrates how luxury kitchen design under £40k can deliver individuality and exceptional craftsmanship through intelligent planning.

Importantly, the stated budget relates to the kitchen furniture and specified finishes, with appliances supplied separately by the clients.

A Timeless Bespoke Kitchen Designed for Everyday Life

The completed Selborne Road project demonstrates how thoughtful design can transform an extension into the heart of a family home. Warm walnut, elegant porcelain and subtle metallic accents create an interior that feels contemporary yet enduring.

The generous island encourages interaction, while carefully planned storage and integrated functionality support everyday routines. Natural daylight and the open-plan layout further enhance the welcoming atmosphere.

Most importantly, the design fulfils the clients’ original vision: a luxurious kitchen that feels beautifully crafted, practical and personal.

This project demonstrates that exceptional design value comes from creativity, craftsmanship and the intelligent use of materials rather than unnecessary extravagance.

Point 5 designed and installed the kitchen in our flat early last year. Having downsized from a large house we needed a lot to be squeezed into a small space. Wojciech did an amazing job on the design and management of the installation so that we now have an elegant and practical kitchen that fulfils all our needs. In addition I can praise their after sales service. When recently we had a problem with one of the unit drawers Wojciech came Immediately and dealt with the issue promptly and efficiently without quibble.
